Heucheras are incredible garden plants for their toughness, colour and texture which looks good ‘all year round’. Some varieties are bred specifically for foliage while others for their lovely ‘coral bell’ flowers. Heuchera ‘Peppermint Spice’ is a combination of the best of both worlds, with ‘Green spice’ like foliage which is vibrant light green with dark red veining, and deepest pink flowers in profusion. This is a compact Heuchera and flower stems are mid length providing a nice display with flower stems remaining upright and attractive.
Heucheras prefer part shade conditions in New Zealand, growing best when protected from afternoon sun. The darker the foliage generally the more sun tolerant so lighter Heucheras like ‘Peppermint Spice’ will need some shade. Avoid over-watering or water logged soils, ensure good drainage as with all Heucheras. Take care not to bury the crown of Heucheras when planting. Water and feed occasionally with slow release fertiliser.
