Salvias are ideal for Coastal or Dry Conditions
Salvias are a large genus belonging to the Mint family or Lamiaceae. The larger collection of several genera are commonly referred to also as 'Sage'. Ornamental varieties are usually called Salvia but are a relative of cullinary sage. Salvia as a name comes from the Latin 'Salvere' which translates to wellness and healing referring to the medicinal properties of this genus. Salvias are generally perennials, annuals or sub shrubs with good drought tolerance characteristics and some resistance via aromatic oils from grazing animal and insect attack.
