Dicentra

Dicentras for quirky flowers and fab foliage

Dicentras are also commonly called 'Bleeding Hearts' after their unusual heart shped flowers. These plants are native to Eastern Asia and North America Dicentras are woodland perennials with a particularly long bloom time. As you'd expect they love dappled shade and favour planting under taller trees and shrubs. Dicentras like loose, well drained, evenly moist soils and will not do well in heavy clay soils. Mulching is beneficial. Dicentras can be propagated by division, a practice that is recommended every three years or so to rejuvenate plants. You may observe some dormancy in extremely dry conditions eg the height of summer and also in the winter months. Foliage will re-appear in Spring more lovely than ever for the winter rest!
