Podophyllums are also known as Himalayan 'Mayapples', a rare and unusual woodland plant with a most extraordinary growth habit.
Deciduous in winter, massive 'umbrella like' leaves erupt from the soil like a series of mushrooms breaking through to grow into a dramatic and colourful patterned leaf the size of a large dinner plate
If that's not exciting enough, the most unusual darkest ruby flowers arrive as if by magic, suspended under the large leaves during summer.
This is a collectors plant, not difficult to grow if you have a good shaded position under trees with some moisture. Do not allow to dry out completely and protect from snails and slugs when these are prevalent.
