Bergenia ‘Dragonfly Sakura’ has double to semi double ‘cherry blossom’ pink flowers held on robust spikes against an evergreen foliage display of darkest black evergreen foliage. Bergenias are very useful perennials not only for their leathery hardy form but also for their very early spring flowering display. Bergenia ‘Dragonfly Sakura’ is a new variety of Bergenia which differs from the commonly grown garden Bergenia cordifolia in that it is smaller and forms a tidy clump of narrow leaves which colour attractively to a ‘purple-black’ in cool climates over the winter. Flowers emerge in early spring, are a deep cerise pink double and nicely in proportion to the foliage. Cute and compact.
Bergenias will tolerate a very wide range of situations and soil types, they are a particularly easy perennial to grow and ‘Dragonfly Sakura’ is no exception. A nice front of border low maintenance plant. Plant in sun to part shade ideally in well drained, porous soils. Bergenias tolerate dry conditions well and need minimal watering so an excellent choice for those with water restrictions.
